Getting Married on Maui

A Lifetime of Memories

A Lifetime of Memories

Who would not want to get married on Maui?  Well the easiest part is to book reservations at the Honua Kai and it then gets tougher from there.  Remember the Honua Kai can have everyone in the wedding party stay at one location.  Studios, 1 bedrooms, 2 bedrooms, and 3 bedrooms are available.

I’m certainly no expert on this topic so I’ve scoured the internet and gotten some great resources for you.  I’m going on recommendations from a lot of good websites that specialize in Maui weddings.  Basically you can have a very simple ceremony on a Maui beach as the sun sets (and in front of the Honua Kai if you want) or hold a huge bash like many billionaires have done on Maui – your choice.

Basically you can get married at these types of locations:

  • On a Maui Beach – can be right on the beach in front of the Honua Kai if you like
  • Overlooking unbelievable ocean vistas – the stuff of fairytales
  • Waterfall weddings – some wedding planners have access to private waterfalls
  • Garden weddings -  wedding planners have access to estates that the public never sees
  • Resort Hotel Sites -  these are typically booked 6 months in advance and even more

Although the Honua Kai does not have wedding facilities the wedding can be catered to the beach directly in front of the Honua Kai – bring the wedding to you!  There are companies that specialize in doing this – all beaches on all Hawaiian Islands are public beaches and anyone can hold a wedding on any Hawaiian beach they want.

The northern part of Maui is just beautiful for weddings – the Maui shore lines have appeared in hundreds of moves in the past century – that’s how beautiful it is in Maui.  Folks get married on the beach all the time.  Here are some of the most popular locations for Maui weddings:

On the Maui Beach

You used to be able to have arches and chairs on the Maui beach but that ended in Aug of 2008.  You can have the minister and wedding party stand on the beach for the ceremony.

Unbelievable Ocean Vistas

Many wedding coordinators on Maui own or lease plots of land that overlook breathtaking vistas of the Maui Ocean.  These locations are typically above cliff areas so you are not on the beach for this kind of wedding.  The facilities are built or can be erected quickly then removed so as to not spoil the natural beauty of the location.

Maui Waterfall Weddings

Many wedding coordinators specialize in this kind of wedding – by a Maui waterfall.  The location is usually a leased area that is not open to the public so you won’t have kids diving into the pools below.

Garden weddings specialize in showing off the Maui landscape with rare flowers and birds that don’t exist near the beach or by secluded waterfalls.  These weddings typically have rare birds nearby to add a Polynesian ambiance to the wedding.

This is the most expensive kind of wedding on Maui – big bucks and lots of lead time of 6 – 12+ months for booking the wedding.  Expect to put up hefty deposits that are forfeited if you cancel the wedding.  This kind of wedding is favored by lots of folks who spend lots of money for the wedding.

Conclusion:

I’m starting a Wedding series and will post more detailed information about the 5 kinds of weddings on Maui and wedding coordinators.
