The Maui Waterfall Wedding

There seems to be two locations, on Maui, for waterfalls that are suitable for weddings – 1) Northern Maui near the Honua Kai and 2) Hana area of South Maui.  I guess a third area might be waterfalls, at a hotel, which make for an artificial, but stunning, backdrop for a wedding.

In North Maui there are two areas that seem to have nice waterfalls yet easy access for the wedding 1) Haiku Waterfall and 2) Iao Valley Gardens, both are part of a botanical garden complex.

Haiku Waterfall – This waterfall is a natural waterfall and the water comes from a cliff and falls into the Pacific Ocean.  This is a leased area that is private and not open to the general public and has conveniences such as a covered deck and changing rooms for the bride and her wedding party.  There is also an elegant decorated tropical island themed partially-open area available for the wedding reception.

Iao Valley Gardens – This is a medium-sized waterfall in a lush, tropical Maui setting that is eye popping.  However, it is not as well kept or spectacular as the Haiku waterfall location but is very pretty, and less expensive.

Hotel locations – these are artificial, man made, waterfalls that are very beautiful and extremely easy to get to from the Honua Kai.

Ka’anapali Beach Club – believe it or not this resort is right next door to the Honua Kai – they have several waterfalls that the wedding coordinator can rent for your wedding.  Talk about convenient – have the ceremony there and hold the reception at the Honua Kai!

Maui Prince in Makena – this resort is just down the road from the Honua Kai and has waterfalls and a Japanese Garden with Koi ponds.

All of these locations are either walking distance from the Honua Kai or a 15 minute drive.  The locations in Hana are far far away and take about 3 hours to drive – don’t even think of those waterfalls.  The northern part of Maui, near the Honua Kai, have plenty of waterfalls that can be used as the backdrop to a wedding that absolutely everyone in the wedding party will talk about for a decade.
