Bye Bye Snowbirds

March signals the exodus of snowbirds from Maui back to the mainland – bye bye.  The kids are still in school and this is an excellent time for couples to visit Maui free of all the crowds which appear in the summer.

December through April
HUMPBACK WHALE WATCHING SEASON
Humpbacks begin their southern migration from Alaska to Hawai’i in December every year to give birth to their calves as well as to mate. Whales stay through about April, but dates can vary somewhat.March is prime whale watching time.

Early March
MAUI SCHOLASTIC SURFING CHAMPIONSHIP
An annual surfing championship held at Lahaina Harbor. For more information call (808) 877-2111

March 6, 2010
Haiku Community Center

A community event with entertainment, food, crafts, flower demonstrations, and farmer’s market. Proceeds benefit Haiku School, Haiku Boys and Girls Club and Haiku Community Association for local youth education enrichment and activities.

March 24, 2010
TASTE OF NORTH SHORE
Maui’s biggest little party on the Northshore, under the full moon and starry skies. A culinary event featuring Northshore and upcountry restaurants, beer and wine garden, continuous live entertainment. dancing, and silent auction. Adult only please. This event is for the benefit of Paia Youth & Cultural Center. Paia Baby Beach Park, 28 Hana Hwy, Paia HI. For more information call (808)283-1806.

Late March
THE CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS
This three-day festival held at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua celebrates the rich heritage and culture of native Hawaiians from the past, through present and into the future.
